Photo-Arts I ART3026A

This blog reflects the main topics covered in Photo-Arts I, an introductory course offered by the Department of Art, University of Lethbridge.

Participants learn about fundamentals: heliography, image formation, chemical and digital processes and the nature of light and time as these act upon receptive surfaces. Key topics in the history and practice of the medium from its inception until today are presented in weekly 'round-table' forums.

Students discuss outcomes, solve problems and raise questions while pursuing personal creative research. Examples from their work are shown on this blog.

Broadly, we consider the terms perception, duration and appearance as they relate to photography by examining the relationships that technical images have with art and to visual culture.

Investigations include a sweeping vocabulary of possibilities in and related to photography.
